Tour ESP+
Easy Scan and Print Plus (ESP+) Software provides a simple
way to scan microfilm or microfiche images into files that can be
printed, saved to a disk, or e-mailed. ESP+ is a stand-alone product
that does not require any additional imaging software. Its ease
of use makes it ideal for unattended walk up scenarios in libraries,
records centers, or a corporate filing center.

Step
1 - Getting Started
The first screen that appears after loading ESP+ is the
Start Screen shown here. There are several options that
can be set by the system administrator including passwords,
default save locations, default scanners, and a timer that
returns the system to the Start Screen after a certain period
has passed. These options are locked out by password protection
to all but system administrators. Since it is so important
that walk up users be able to use this system with minimal
intervention, online Help is available at all levels of
the program. ESP+ can be used as a touch screen system or
with a mouse. Options to touch the screen or click the mouse
will be given throughout the program. If a touch screen
is being used, a touch anywhere on the Start Screen will
start the process. If a mouse is used, a click on the Start
Screen will move the user to the next screen.

Step
2 - The Scan Preview Screen
The Scan Preview Screen is where you will scan the microfilm/microfiche
image(s), adjust the scanned image(s), then save, e-mail,
or print the resulting image(s). Once the image you want
scanned is pulled up on the microfilm scanner, a touch on
or a click of the mouse on the Scan New button will scan
the microfilm image and convert it to a digital image which
will appear on this screen as shown below.

Step
3 - Working With the Scanned Image
Once the scanned image appears on the Scan Preview Screen,
you can utilize a number of options to view the image in
detail and make any necessary adjustments before printing,
saving, or e-mailing the image. To view the image in greater
detail you can zoom in or zoom out the entire image or parts
you select by drawing a box around a selected part of the
image. Brightness can be controlled with the Darker or Brighter
buttons. It is not necessary to rescan the image after you
adjust brightness. At any time the image can be restored
to its original scan settings or inverted to positive or
negative mode by the Restore button or the Invert Image
button.

Step 4 - Printing, E-Mailing, or Saving the Image
When you have finished viewing and adjusting the image
you can print, e-mail, or save the image by selecting the
appropriate button. You will then be guided through the
selected process. If the e-mail option is selected, a dialog
box will appear which will allow an e-mail address to be
entered. Once this is done the e-mail function will take
place in the background. This is an important feature for
those users who wish to limit access to their internal mail
system.

Step
5 - Working With Multiple Page Scans
If you are working with more than one image you can create
a multiple page TIFF image by placing the images in a folder.
After you have viewed and adjusted each individual image
which will make up the multi-page TIFF file, click on or
touch the Add Image to Folder button. You can then call
up another image for the folder using the New Scan button.
The individual images will be labeled Image 1, Image 2,
etc. as you add them to the folder. You can view any image
that has been added to the folder, adjust it, then add it
to the folder again. Both your original image and the altered
image will be saved in the folder. Once all the scans making
up the multi-page TIFF have been completed you may print,
e-mail, or save the images. To begin the scanning process
again, select the Start New Folder button.
The new delete function of ESP+ allows you to review the
images in your folder and delete unwanted items before saving,
printing, or sending them by e-mail.
|
Step 6 - Deleting Images
Added text security: ESP+ has built-in security to allow
you to create a password that eliminates users from closing or
exiting ESP+ without entering the password.
Configuaration: You can also configure ESP+ to hide function
boxes such as printing, e-mail, or saving so users only are aware
of the distribution capabilities that you want them to have. All
configuration changes require the password to make changes, keeping
your system secure.
Step 7 - Exiting the Preview Scan Screen
After the image(s) have been processed and the Return to Start
Screen button has been selected or if a predetermined idle period's
limits have been reached, the program will return to the Start
Screen.
