 Easy
Scan and Print (ESP) Software, designed by Mid-America Business
Systems, is software that allows scanned images to easily be printed,
saved to a disk, or e-mailed. The scans can be images generated
from microfilm or microfiche utilizing the Minolta MS2000 or MS3000
microform scanners.
Since the system
can work with a mouse or with a touch screen, any level of user
can readily use the system with limited computer experience or instruction.
The application is perfect for libraries or records centers where
there are a wide variety of requestors for microfilmed documents.
The time spent printing and/or routing by research staff can be
minimized, thus allowing for more productive use of employees' time.
Greater efficiency
and wider access to information are also benefits of ESP. Requests
for information can be handled and distributed more efficiently
electronically. End user workstations without microfilm reader-printers
can receive the documents they need from an "ESP" workstation that
has access to a microfilm library via e-mail. Requestors can be
on a LAN, WAN, or on the Internet. Plus, since the original image
is unaltered, the document remains secure.
The simplicity
of ESP combined with the versatility of the Minolta Hybrid Microform
Scanners allows the conversion of 16/35 mm roll microfilm and microfiche
into hard copy or electronic form with a few clicks of the mouse
or a couple of touches on the screen. The power of ESP is that anyone
that can use a reader-printer can use this software, thus enhancing
and leveraging the microfilm library that is already in use. Equally
as important are the efficiencies gained by an electronic distribution

There are two
versions of ESP available. ESP Basic has been designed as a utility
for Imaging for Windows-Professional Edition software from Kodak
to easily scan microfilm or microfiche images. The images can be
previewed and manipulated with the tools available in Imaging for
Windows. The image can then be printed, saved, or e-mailed.
ESP+, a stand
alone product, does not require Imaging for Windows and is designed
for those applications where minimal image manipulation is required
although there are some basic features like zoom controls and brightness
